Have you ever had a favorite television show that was full of obscure reference’s and you catch most of them, however every once in a while there is one that you just cannot figure out where the reference or quote is from? One of my favorite TV shows is The Venture Brothers on Adult Swim. The writers of the The Venture Brothers show often put in references to old Rock and Roll quotes from more obscure bands or even people such as Klaus Nomi.

Well, I happen to think that The Venture Brothers is a very cool show even if you don’t have any idea who Klaus Nomi was.The show is kind of an adult take of of the old adventure TV type shows like Johnny Quest et al.

Anyways, there is any episode of The Venture Brothers where the Pirate Captain gets shot by a Tranquilizer gun and the first time he really enjoys it, however, when he see’s two of the Monarch’s Henchman and they have Tranquilizer guns the Pirate Captain begs the two Henchman to shoot him again with the Tranquilizer guns, upon being shot he says “It’s like being sucked off by an angel!”

I have done some research and cannot find any other reference to this quote except to The Venture Brothers However, for some reason and I could be wrong? It wouldn’t be the first time! But, I think this is either a Jim Carrol Quote or an old Lou Reed Quote referring to Heroin. Then again, this could just remind me of something that one of the two of them would have said, and it is entirely possible that it is actually a Doc Hammer or a Jackson Publick quote?

However, it is more likely that I have been watching the Venture Brothers way too much? But it is such a great show!!!

If this quote sounds like something that maybe you might have heard from somewhere other than The Venture Brothers show please feel free and drop me a note. As I said it is entirely possible that it is from Doc or Jackson…

Time off or “Time Away” if you prefer?

As usual I have been on what I would call my “Summer” break. I have still been writing only in other formats and sometimes about subjects that I don’t think would fly too well here on these pages. Not that I have tried to keep the subjects on these pages to any particular subject except life in general, I just have been writing about stuff that, well stuff that may be more boring than the usual stuff.

I do plan on starting up again and will do that sometime over the next month, until then I am sure there is some stuff we all could do? On the upside it has been good to hear from those of you who have taken the time to drop me a note. I always get a kick out of that!!! So, I’ll be back soon and I hope you will too!!!

Shitty day and I need a mental break! I don’t like bullies, yet I live with two of them, and I refuse to take their shit, this just causes them to try harder and when they realize that they cannot get to me they become violent.

Some days I need Calgon to just take me away…

Illegal and legal drugs

It’s strange, as I have so many stories to write about for this post, but when I get here if I don’t have a concrete idea as to what I am going to write about I am pretty much lost, and lost I am today as I just came from an interesting post by a junky, if you are interested in reading what it is like to be a junky here is the link: http://junkysays.blogspot.com/

Read thru it a bit and you will learn that being a junky isn’t about having an easy life. It is much more difficult then real work and it appears to take more out of you then one would imagine. (Not that I ever thought it was an easy life), but it is nonetheless interesting to read what about what it takes to be a junky.

In my opinion it is easier to just get a real job and drink yourself to death, because there is quite a headache involved in doing heroin. Not to mention the withdrawals and the police two of the biggest problems that I would imagine that being a heroin addict would have to go thru. And then there is the physical toll it takes on ones body, I have seen real addicts and it really tears your body to hell, granted it isn’t as bad as crystal meth, but I don’t recommend that either.

Drug use gets a lot of popularity from the Rock and Roll image, and to be honest none of it is a good idea, so I have no idea how or why people get involved with this shit, it is all garbage. I am not trying to stand on a soap box here, I have had my run in with more then a few illegal drugs and am currently on a handful of Morphine on a daily basis for pain management. I really wish I wasn’t, but to be honest I cannot function with out it, as I get no high out of it, I am just able to function daily. Had they told me when they first gave it to me that I would still be on it 6 years later with no end in site, I would have looked for other options. On the upside I know what I am getting and it is the real stuff and I don’t have to worry about going into shitty neighborhoods for it, my Dr. prescribes it for me. I feel pretty lucky just to know that what I am getting is the real deal.

There is nothing glamorous about drug use, and I am glad to see people tell stories so that others can learn just what it is that they think that they may be getting into. I could go into more detail regarding some of the other items that are currently listed as drugs, (Most of which I disagree), but I will just keep this short and say I am glad to read stuff by people who are going thru the trials and tribulations of having an addiction, and I wish all of these people the best of luck as from what it sounds like it isn’t easy!

Still as good as it always was

Well, I must say it is good to be back, I never know why I take time off from this site it usually just happens, however it does happen. I don’t abandon writing I just take it in a different direction, which is what I have been doing as of late. I am thinking about working on a book, I have already started some of it and I have about 2 chapters done so far, but I am a long way away. The subject will be about my personal battle with an illness, (Who doesn’t want to read about an illness? hahaha.) Anyways I am working on that and now it turns out that there is a record deal in the works, so I will post here if and when it comes out, the date we’re looking at is early to late Spring, the music is already recorded it is just a re-mix and then slap it on some vinyl and then well, then I am not sure? It is unlikely that there will be a tour, but I wouldn’t rule out a few shows? One never knows what the future holds.

Outside of these two projects I am just working on a few side things that likely will not see the light of day, not because they are not important, but because they are projects that will initiate other projects. So, they are important on their own rights, just not something I will be sharing with the general public.

Well, as I said before and I am sure I will say again, it is good to be back, I really enjoy writing here and will keep the “”FiveInchMonkey” weblog for as long as I can. If anyone want a FiveInchmonkey sticker just leave me a private msg or contact me via my contact page, I have some that I would be willing to give out to the first five people that contact me…

So it has been a while since I have posted

I know it has been a while since I have posted, but like all of you I have other stuff going on. This isn’t to say that I haven’t been writing, I have been writing more then ever, I just have been using another method. With this being said I think now that Winter is settling in it may be time for me to start writing here again.

I will start with this pic of a web page I recently came across, it was for Land Rover gifts or something like that out of the Country of Norway. So I decide to see what it is about and I use a translator so that I can understand what is on the page and this is what I found. Some group in the country of Norway is holding a contest or a Raffle of sorts for a green card for the USA. It seems that if you win this Raffle you can win a US Green card where you can come to the USA and live and work, all because you happened to win the Raffle. This whole concept seems a bit strange to me, as I never would have thought that I could win a green card for me to go to any country and live and work.

As I said, it just strikes me as a little strange that you can win a contest and they will let you into the USA so you can live and work. Who says that America isn’t the best place on earth to live, in fact it is so good that they give it away in Prizes!

Leaves on my Tree of Thoughts…

Some of the great things about writing a lot is that you always have something laying around that you can go over and re-do or maybe polish a little bit and it could actually be a good story or at least a good premise for a story. The down side of having so much stuff laying around is that you end up keeping a sort of an emotional tool box laying around. Often when you stumble into the room, (Folder) you come across interesting stories that you may have started and stopped for one reason or another, and sometimes you come across a really bad story, but you can take a part of it and use it in another story. All of this of course is nothing new, all writers do this and they keep this “Room” full of ideas and story lines” etc….

The Down side is the emotional pull that you get when you find two or three really good ideas and you keep looking because you know there was another part of some story somewhere around the room, so you pick up this paper, and then that paper, as if you were literally cleaning an old dusty room covered with Papers that you had written this subject on or maybe that subject on, and then suddenly you find the “Stopper”, or that is what I call it! I call it the Stopper because it literally stops you from doing anything else productive, you kind of sit there and read the same page two, three and sometimes four times in a row and then suddenly you realize that you have hit a “Stopper” and now you have to pull your brain away from it before it starts to take too much emotional power from you.

I have also seen the “Stopper” be come the beginning or the end for another story, and when that happens it is a very wonderful thing, however it almost never happens that way and we usually hit a time vacuum and we have lost all of the wind in our sails….so much for writing that day, because what ever you have just found is going to set a small Bon Fire in your heart and it will burn for a day or two, and then after that you can start again.

I bring this up as I was sifting thru the leaves of my Papers, looking at the trees filled with my thoughts and taking a leaf here and bundling up a few leafs there and I was hoping to start to work on a book idea that has been sitting in the back of my head, and I have come to the conclusion that the thought tree may need to blossom a little more with some more leaves before I can hop to get a book out of the orchard, but until then I do believe that there are some Short Stories in there…That is as long as I can stay away from those Stoppers like the one I hit tonight. There will be a low burning Bon Fire in my Soul tonight and hopefully it will ebb by tomorrow night and I can continue with my work.

I sure hope so…..

A Short Tour de France Post

For some reason some of my Posts are not coming thru? So if you see doubles please let me know and I will edit accordingly.

If anyone knows me personally, they know there are really only two Sports that I care to watch, or really even enjoy, one of those Sports if F1 Racing as I am a bit of a Speed Junkie and the other Sport takes up almost the entire Month of July every year, and that is the Tour de France.

Today is the day after The 4th of July, a lot of business’s are closed and I am at home watching the Tour de France, actually it wouldn’t matter if business’s were open I would probably still be watching the Tour de France, but it would likely be later in the day and it would be a “re-run”. Today’s race was an interesting one it started out pretty good, (If you are not a cycling fan you may like what happens next?) Then a little more then half way (I think this is where it happened?) There was a nasty accident. When I say a nasty accident, this was a bad one as it looked like there were a broken collar bone or two and plenty of blood and scrapes, etc… (I am still searching to find out what happened to Christian Van De Velde? He was involved in the crash, but I didn’t see if he was one of the guys that was taken out of the race?)

Then to show you how tuff this sport can be, it looked like almost everyone got up, dusted them self off and took off again, and then caught the Peloton which was about 10+ minutes ahead. After catching up the riders decided in a form of protest to not sprint at the end, so they all would have the same time, ie..all would be in second place. With the exception of Sylvain Chavenal who won today’s (maillot jaune) Yellow Jersey, as he was about 4 plus minutes ahead of the Peloton and therefore he missed the entire crash. So it pays not to sometimes not run with the pack…

This is just a very brief synopsis of what todays race was, but I needed to make a post to find out if I am having issues with my blog program. Maybe tomorrow I will provide a more detail post on Stage three of the Tour de France.

Moving Forward and a New MidWest Hardcore Book!

Life is about to change for me, and this is a good thing! I have been working on some changes in my life over the last year and a half and I am now starting to see some of the changes come to fruition. I will not go into all of the details as there are quite a few that I can mention, but what I will do is say that my life is changing directions, which is a great thing, (As I know some people are not good with change, I am one of the lucky ones that I adapt to change very well. Especially when I initiate the change.)

I am also planning a move, a move to Another State. I will keep posting here while all of this is going on and I would like you to feel free to drop me messages with any questions and I will do what I can to answer as many as possible. The move will be taking me somewhere to the Southern part of the U.S.A. I will know if everything is going to come about sometime in the next two to three months. Basically I have a few things to do prior to moving, so these steps must take place before the move. Life has been continually getting better over the last year and I have a feeling that life will continue on this path. So as things continue to move forward I will do what I can to post as much as possible as well as posting some of my regular type posts. Thanks to all who have e-mailed me and asked various questions and I will catch all as the days go by.

P.S. There is a new book that is coming out, actually it should be released by the time this post is seen. The Book is called “Why be Something that you’re not: Detroit Hardcore 1979 – 1985!” It is written by a friend named Tont Rettman. You can find it over at Amazon.com for $10.80 which is a great price as I think the book is supposed to be selling for $16.00 The book covers a lot of the Hardcore bands from that time frame as well as Stories by some of the people that were part of the “Hardcore Scene”, and there may even be some stuff in there by myself. I haven’t seen the book yet, but I did do a three and a half hour interview with Tony when he was working on the book. I think the book will have a lot of good stuff in it and I am sure it will be a good book!

Also, if anyone is interested, I will be selling Skateboards that have flyers from a lot of shows that were held during this time in Detroit. I will post pictures in the next two weeks when I get the first run of Decks in. These will be collectible, however you can mount one and ride it, but I believe that most of the boards will end up on peoples walls. If you would like to order one, please contact me as I will not have too many and a lot of them will be sold at the Book release party on July 30th (Kalamazoo) and July 31st (Detroit Show).
